About this place
Sashimi, grilled fish, tempura and hot pot: at Sakaba Teppou, diners can choose dishes individually and range from seafood to game. One lunchtime guest singled out the springy octopus in the five-piece sashimi assortment, as well as the grilled yellowtail collar they chose from the day’s selection and its well-judged seasoning. Other grilled fish options include black cod saikyo-yaki, salmon belly and fatty mackerel, making it easy to settle in for a fish-focused meal or share a few different flavours.
For something beyond seafood, there is scallop and okra dressed with sesame, as well as oden. Another diner enjoyed the scallop and okra with beer, along with generous slices of sashimi and eel sushi that can be ordered one piece at a time. The fried dishes include a choice of sillago, prawns, lotus root and shiitake mushrooms. Diners who tried the tempura have also praised its light batter and the gentle sweetness of the sweet potato.
For a hot-pot-centred meal, options include game shabu-shabu with a choice of wild boar or venison, and sukiyaki served with vegetables, tofu and udon. One diner found the venison sukiyaki easy to eat, noting that the meat was not too fatty; another paired a venison hot pot with tempura and yakitori. Whether you want to linger over a substantial hot pot or sample fish and small plates, there is room to tailor the meal to the occasion.
Drinks include beer and sake, along with a varied selection of highballs. The Kaku highball, for instance, is described as having a dry finish, while the Toki highball is noted for fruity sweetness and a hint of vanilla, offering different profiles to match with the food.
